SLJ, DAY 2, WEEK 1, Forest Life

DAY 2:

Activity 1:

Giants Among Us:

I would really like to see Tāne Mahuta, Kauri die back is spreading around the big tree and could soon be infected. Tāne Mahuta is an old Kauri tree and the largest one standing today, it's age is not known today but it is estimated to be around 1,250 and 2,500 years old. Seeing it for what could be the last time sounds really sad, as so many legends and myths will be dieing with it, but if we are lucky Kauri dieback could miss Tāne Mahuta all together.

SLJ, Week 1 Day 1 In The Beginning

DAY 1

Activity 1:

Top 3 Fun Facts:

30% of New Zealand's land is covered in forestry.

Aotearoa means, land of the long white cloud, and Aotearoa is also the Maori name for New Zealand.

'Once Were Warriors', 'The Whale Rider', 'The Piano', and 'Lord of The Rings' are the most popular movies in New Zealand.

Activity 2:

North and South:

I live in barrytown on the west coast of the south island, where you can find many pieces of jade. (Also known as pounamu or green stone.) There are many black sand gold mines here, where they are slowly finding their fortune. On the little farm that I live on, most of the land has been mined.  You can see where it has been mined because the grass in the summer goes very dry and yellow in summer (there is very little top soil and loads of stones), where as in the places that haven't been mined, they are still dry but are visibly greener. Also near barrytown is Punakaiki where after hundreds of years, the sea has formed stones that look like pancakes hence they got the name pancake rocks. In the West Coast you will find that there are many coal mines or there once were many coalmines. I live over the Paparoa Ranges from the biggest mine disaster that  happened on the west coast. 29 people died and the fire is still going after 8 years, they are only just starting to make plans about reentering the mine. So that's where I live and whats special about it!

Activity 3:

Ice, Ice Baby:

Being smart online, can save you from being hacked and scammed. Sometimes you get called from places like China, trying to get you to do some thing on your devise, DON'T DO IT!!!! They can get really annoying though (I know from experience!) Here's my guide to being smart online!!

Looking Back At 2018

Year 7 in Totara 2 has been amazing. I have loved being in Miss Hine's class and I have improved so much in my learning. I was really nervous going into Totara, but it's not that bad! Here is a tiny reflection on 2018!!

The best thing about 2018 & why.

The best thing about 2018 was Mistletoe bay camp. I have never been to the Marlborough sounds. It is so pretty out there, and filled with great activity's. My favourite activity was archery, and paddle boarding (even though I feel off heaps!!) At mistletoe bay they are very eco friendly. The water at Misletoe bay is so clear, blue, and filled with many sea animals, like sting-ray, dolphins, and fish. It is definitely a camp I would go to again!

Something you are proud of that you have done in 2018 & why.

I have a few things that I am proud of and here they are, first I am proud of moving up four stainine  from a 5 to a 9, I have either improved a lot or am very good at guessing!!   Second I am proud of coming first in my contemporary for the 11 years and under age group, it was the first time I had do my solo, the judge said I am a very promising contemporary dancer, and thanks to Miss Hines  for hinting that the judge doesn't like shoes!!! Third I am proud of getting a high of 100 in 2.05 minutes for basic facts, my goal was to get 100 in 5 minutes, I think I succeeded in that goal!!! Lastly I am proud of getting 1st in shot put at the west coast for year 7 girls 2018, I got a high of 7.27 meters, this is my third year running getting first.

Your goal/goals for 2019.

My goal for 2019 is to put my hand up of everything, and become a leader within the school. Helping out with teachers, Sharon, Debbie, and Nigel. Putting my hand up for things like the production, choir, kapahaka, prep, and things like that. I would also like to achieve all of my leader ship badges, and maybe do a few main stars.

I have really enjoyed this year and I hope to have another great year next year, being a year 8 next year sounds so weird, the year has gone by so fast, and before I know it I will be starting high school, that sounds scary!! I can't wait till Monday where I find out my class for next year, and Christmas concert. Next year sounds so exciting, and I can't wait to find out what will be happening!!

For topic the class has been cut in half. half of the class are Germans and the other half are Jews. I am a Jew. There are special rules for the Jews and Germans. The Jews have to sit in the floor, aren't allowed to go past the hall, they can't have treats or music. Germans get the opposite to this. Here is chapter 1 Activity and questions.

Growing Healthy Bodies

Have you ever wondered how much sugar is in a bottle of coke? If you have well today your lucky day!
Today for topic we had a visitor come in the Greymouth District Health Nurse Ann came in and taught us about sugar. It was about drinks and what is healthy and what is not.
How many Gram of sugar in a drink
Water - 000
Gms calci strong milk - 5.7
Spirit - 6.2
Pump Lemon - 17g
V Pure - 15.7
Coke - 16
Gms E2 - 18.75
V8 Tropical Fusion - 27g
V Pure - 29.2
Red Bull - 51g
Lift+ - 59g
E2 - 75g

V Energy Drink - 539g

You would be surprised how much sugar is in these drinks. But if you put the same amount of sugar that's in the drink with water you wouldn't be able to drink it. So they add acidity regulator it stops the drink from being so sweet. Their are two different types of natural sugar that comes from some of the foods, and processed sugar that is very unhealthy. If you drink a bottle of coke you have to run for 30 minutes very fast so start runing!!!
Here are some photos of our day.

Bee's wax

Today Kaine Taught us about bee wax and what to do with it.
Here are some facts about Bees and wax.

  • Change colour Lighter if darker infected and dirty.
  • Honeycomb melted and hardened= wax.
  • Pour melted wax on cheese cloth perfection goes through.
  • Wax is made into candles.
  • To make honey they collect the poilane then eat it after eating the poilane they puck it back up that process is continued in the hexagons the hexagons are caped and honey is created. Honey is basically bee puck.
  • In Christchurch the earthquake affected houses will be removed and been converted into gardens.
  • Normal honey with no manuka= 3.00            Manuka honey= 12.00
  • 6 trillion bees are flying around earth
  • To purchase a hive with bees included it would cost 300 dollars. That's as much as 24 Manuka honey potals.
  • Manuka honey in is very important to our earth same with bees.

Here are the first steps in making a kind of food cover that is like glad rap but reusable
and cleaner for the environment.
Step 1. melt wax in bowl in pot with boiling water. Once melted Pour on a cheese cloth the perfection goes through the cheese cloth the imperfection stays on top separating the waxes.

Step 2. Once melted Pour on a cheese cloth with ice cream container inside. The perfection goes through the cheese

Bees and bee's wax are very interesting. Here are some of the photos

Descriptive writing

For Writing we where doing descriptive writing.

Feeling the cold air all around me, gives me goosebumps.Seeing the rays of sun peering through the bair trees, warms me inside.Hearing the trickling of the cool creek in the distance mixed with the early morning bird melody, brings music to my ears.Smelling the frosty wet grass shortly cut to play soccer on, makes my nose tickle.Tasting the stail cold air dries my throat out, so I can not speak making the morning more peaceful. All that’s on my mind is milky steaming hot chocolate, warming my cold throat. The trees cold and bare are like little door open for the sun to go though.   The sight in my eyes is like a photo frozen in time in its beauty.

Here is the photo

Hello
This term we are reading Kensuke's kingdom for our novel work.  We were asked some questions about the first chapter.  So far, the main character Michael was living in his home town where he loves playing football.  But very soon he received a letter for his parents to say that the place they worked at was just about to close and they where going to have no jobs.  The only money that was coming into the house was Michael's paper run money. Soon after they moved onto their boat and are about to go sailing around the world. Here is my google drawing.

Summer Blogging Challenge Week 1 Day 3 Activity 1+2+bonus

Activity 1: The more, the merrier?

Activity 1: A waiata in your heart .

I use to go to barrytown school and know I go to grey main school I was in kapahaka and was the girl leader we sang Nga Iwi E and it just remind me of that wonderful small school.

Summer Blogging Challenge Week 1 Day 2 Activity 1+2+bonus

Activity 1: A house or a home?

This is a wharepuni.

This is my home .

Here are the differences in two different drawings

These 4 things are the same we have Guardians (taniwhas) in front of our house (Sort of)

Both of these are homes to people and shelters. They are homes to us and to all our family values, treasurers and memories, we all live in our own homes happily... Hopefully...

The Difference with this is that the shape is different our has more of walls and they basically just a sloop.
We have wood, brick, stone, all kinds of materials to build houses and they only had wood and they carved it to tell the story of their history.

Activity 2: The rules of engagement.

Here are my pictures that I have drawn  myself - no tracing just sketching all from my mind. My dream job would be a professional dancer. I am all ready a jazz and ballet dancer. I go to competitions and sometimes earn awards. There is some kind of story in it. It starts with the present, it is a dream of looking in the mirror and your see your future self on pointe (a kind of ballet shoe) and in a pretty tutu.

i want to be a professional dancer because dancing is my passion.  I dance 5 classes a week and love the feeling of finishing a dance knowing i have done really really well. Hope you like :)

And then doing it!

Bonus Activity: Special Meals.

My favourite food is from a restaurant call Joe's Garage. There is a delicious menu and I love the pork belly Mmm. Here it is.

The best descriptive words my Mum said about it was, "God it was good"but her face told another story.  Probably the same with mine...... The meat was juicy and tender, the crackling was crunchy and crackly, the potato was sweet and smooth and I didn't eat the salad.  I am a carnivore😀
