Halloween Writing

This week with Mr. Kumar we were doing Halloween writing, here is mine.

My alarm when off, I glared at it with glazed eyes, 74 minutes past 18. I groaned and threw my head back onto my pillow. I bolted up, and stared at my clock, I rubbed my eyes and gawked at it. I bang the clock against my dresser. It doesn’t change. It really says 74 minutes past 18, 18:74. There are three things wrong with this, first there is no such thing as 74 minutes past, secondly it isn’t a 24 hour clock, and thirdly, I don’t even have an alarm clock. I bolt down the stairs yelling for my Mum, I halt immediately, the house looks like a burglar has burst in, tried to find something, couldn’t find what they were looking for, a left in a hurry. The fridge was upside down, the couch was torn up, tables split in half, glass broken, the list goes on and on and on. “Mum!!” I yell, “Dad!!!, Lee!!!” No one is here. Not my beautiful Mother, not my cancer sick Dad, even my little Brother Leo isn’t here. No one. I sprint outside. I stop mid run. My breath catches, from the big oak tree, that once held so many beautiful memories, now holds something ghastly. My father's wheelchair is lying sideways in the garden on the poppies Mum was so proud of. Looking up I see swinging in the light breeze, 3 figures hanging by their necks, a woman, a man, and a boy around the age of 10. The last of my breath is knocked out of me, when the figures slowly turn. My family. Their faces are pale and hollow. A bolt of fear shot through me, their eyeballs are dangling from their now empty eye sockets. Blood trickling down their dripping like water from a tap, the tips off their were cut off. Worst of all, it's their empty smile, a grin quite literally from ear to ear. Frozen in place my breath is sharp, I can’t stop looking. I needed to focus on my breathing, deep breaths in and out.
Cold, long, skinny fingers wrapped around my arm, a cold breath brushes over my neck, leaving goose bumps in it’s trail. My heart beat shot up, going a 150 steadily rising. I still could move, I stared into Dads, hollow eye sockets. He was just getting better, his cancer was slowly getting better. It’s panting, the thing. In a low croaky voice, it wheezed “come with me boy”. Dragging me back into the house. I turned my attention onto Lee, he would have been so much, He was top of the class, a great athlete, collages were already giving him scholarships, he would never go to high school, never go to college, never have a real relationship with a girl. He had so much to live for. I didn’t even have time to look at my Mum. I don’t think I could even if I did. She did so much for my family, why would someone do this to them!?!? Rage was building inside of me, but I couldn’t let it out, I was just blank. But not for long.

Limericks

This week we have been working on writing a Limerick, here is my drawing showing you what a limerick is.

After we did this we had to write two Limericks, here are my two!!

There once was a Moose named Bruce,
Bruce was on the loose,
They found him later that day,
Hiding in a pile of hay,

Drunk from apple juice!

The once was a crocodile called Kyle,
Who swum One thousand miles,
Just to be the croc,
Who Swam to the doc,
And say he did the International Nautical Mile!!

Favourite Song - Blogging Contract #7

Blogging Contract Number 7, my favourite song!
This one was hard to do, I could barely chose. In the end I decided the song "Leave The Light On" By Tom Walker. I chose this song because it is a sad, slow song (I like those one's the best!) I can't really go into full detail about the song ( It's a bit mature), but basically it's about someone leaving the light on for a friend in need, were they can feel okay. I listen to this song on blast, and loop all the time!!!

A Piece Of Writing - Blogging Contract #6

Here is another blogging contract!!!
For writing we have been working on writing an exposition. For this exposition we were in groups and had to write about our point of view, Should students be allowed to bring cellphone to school? What do you think?

Should students be allowed to bring cellphones to school?

Cellphones are definitely NOT suitable in educational facilities!
Do you want your children to have square eyes and be tired and grumpy on a daily basis?
Cell Phones distract pupils from completing given work and following teachers’ rules and instructions as they are accordingly
‘extremely addictive’.
A phone is too small, too hard to operate and too hard to change settings to complete work on apps such as Google Drive.

It is said that using your phone too often on a daily basis can make children (or even adults) grumpy and tired, easily.
Studies show that children under the age of 13 are limited to around 2hrs of screen time per day. If they bought their phones to
school then the amount of screen time would be raised to about 6hrs per day.
Using a phone throughout the day can simulate the brain and make it harder for kids to go to sleep.

Cell Phones distract children from completing set tasks and following teachers’ rules and instructions as they are said to be
‘very addictive.’ Working on a phone will mean that you can not get Hapara because they are your personal device, not a school
one. Because there is no Hapara, children will stop their work and go on popular social media like Snapchat, Instagram, or Tic
Tok. Or very addictive games.  They would not be listening to what the teacher is saying as they will be busy texting their friends.
This is one reason why students should not be allowed cellphones at school.

A phone is too small, too hard to operate and too hard to change settings to complete work on apps such as Google Drive,
where as a computer, chromebook or laptop has a much bigger screen.
When using Google Slides on a cellphone, you cannot add or duplicate slides, so isn’t great for doing long essays/presentations
for school.
Especially on (smaller) phones, it is harder to type using the phones’ keyboard so when writing long pieces it is easier to spell
words wrong and to complete work fast.

In conclusion, we believe that students should NOT bring their cellphones to school as they can make the pupils very tired
and grumpy, they distract students from completing given work and listening to teachers rules and instructions and they are
too small, too hard to operate and too hard to change settings on apps such as Google Drive.

Term 2 - 2019 - Refection

These past two terms have been so much fun. I have had a great time with Miss Hines, and I wish her the best next term.
The Highlights of this term has been, just having a chill, cruising day were we can just joke around, and get some work done. I have also really enjoyed doing the production, working on learning my lines, and becoming my character. One last thing I have really enjoyed would be going to Hanmer Springs camp, that was so much fun!

The things I am most proud of would be, keeping a steady 4th on the basic facts board, (100 in 1.36!)

My goals for next term would be, beating Matthew on the basic facts board! (He has 1.32!) Getting to know the new teacher, Mr Kumar!

I can't wait to meet our new teacher, but I don't want Miss Hines to leave!!

Myth Writing

For the past few weeks, we have been writing myths. My myth was about the floss fluorescents, and how Tangaroa cries for his love. Here it is!

Floss Fluorescents

Once when New Zealand was first founded, The great god of  the sea Tangaroa, was feeling all alone, he wanted someone to keep him company, so he set out to find a beautiful woman and make her his wife. He called out for women in many different tribes, large and small, women came to him, but Tangaroa declined them all. He couldn’t find anyone he liked. So Tangaroa looked up to find a beautiful woman called Rangi. Tangaroa fell desperately in love with Rangi, and made her his wife.

Rangi was always close. But one day Tangaroa fell into a very bad mood when some local fishermen took to many fish for themselves. Tangaroa made the waves crash, and the sea grey. Rangi tried to calm him with a lite, cool, gentle breeze, but Tangaroa got angry with her and made the waves go up, up, up and crash into her, pushing  her up, up, so that he could not touch, talk, or hear her.

When Tangaroa calmed down, he realised what he had done.

During the day, the waves fly up to try reach her, but falls down with lost strength. During the night, his tears slowly reaches the shore, and glow a soft blue colour, that is know to be known as floss fluorescents.
