SLJ, DAY 3, WEEK 1, Awesome Animals

DAY 3:

Activity 1:

Fantastic Beasts:

My Monster:
Tower over you at 10 foot 5, the monster closes it's distance with you. It could have looked like a normal 15 year old boy, but he has an unrecognisable burn mark, looking like a spreading burn blister,  but glowing green, he was tall and skinny, his fingers where the size of pencils with long pointy nails. Long jet black hair falling down his face failing to cover up the terrible scar. It was one of those faces that you just can't forget, it is stuck in your mind forever. The smell of cooking flesh has filled the air crawling up your nose and into your stomach. The sound of heaving breathing and loud, fast heart beating waver in your ear as you realise that, that nose is coming from you. A long tentical unwraps from the boys waist, you never noticed that he has a tentical as an arm, hearing the loud snap of the tentical gives you the chills.

Activity 2:

The Secretive Skink

PROS                                                                              CONS
You would get to live with you best friend!               You would have barely any family near your home
You could always be around wildlife & nature          It wouldn't be very quite with all the animals
There won't be many cars!!                                        You would be living at work!!

Activity 3:

World Wildlife Fund (WWF)

One of the many animals that the WWF help are freshwater seals.
To help these freshwater seals the WWF build snow banks for the seals so the they can dig holes in them so their pups can be born with some shelter. If they do not do this up to half of the pups can die.
The success the WWF have had are to help the pups to survive so that the species do not die off over time.

  1. Kia ora Iris,

I hope you had a lovely Christmas and New Year!
You have really created quite a beast! I love the way you have used adjectives to describe your beast. It has given me a clearer picture of what your beast looks like in my head so thank you for that. Wow, 10 foot 5 is a really tall monster that I would most probably not like to meet. I definitely wouldn't like to shake his hand either if he has long, pointy nails, ouch! Your beast seems so terrifying, reading about it is sending shivers down my spine... You're quite right, it's given me chills! I wonder, what does your beast eat and what does it like to do?

You have done a fantastic job on this activity! You have thought well about the pros and cons of working as a Department of Conservation (DOC) ranger, I'm impressed! It would be quite nice to be surrounded by wildlife and nature, wouldn't it? I live in Auckland and it's a very busy and noisy city so it would be nice to spend some time in nature for a change! I would like to know, after looking at the pros and cons of being a DOC ranger, do you think you would like to become one? Why or why not?

Yes, you're absolutely correct! The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is working to save freshwater seals but do you know what type of freshwater seal? Here's a clue, their name begins with "S". You have shown good understanding about what the WWF are doing to save these freshwater seals. It's amazing what people can achieve when we come together and offer a helping hand, don't you think? There is still plenty of work to be done to ensure that we are able to protect these animals but any efforts made will always be helpful to their well-being. You might be able to find out more information on the outcome of their supportive projects here:

    Keep up the good work,
    Evelyn :)
